Ever wondered when fall truly begins? Join us on the Ride Home Rants podcast where we settle this debate with our special guests Brittany, Tony, and Jordan in our All Things Fall episode. We kick things off with a light-hearted introduction to each guest and their favorite fruits—apples and strawberries being the stars of the show. As we transition into the essence of fall, our guests use words like "cozy" and "football" to describe their feelings about the season. Expect to hear some lively debates about the best pumpkin-flavored treats, from donuts to beer to coffee.

Tailgating and grilling are staples of the fall season, and our guests have plenty to say on the topic. We discuss the joys and challenges of cooking up a feast in cooler temperatures, and even in snowy conditions. From warm fall days to the best times for autumn activities, Saturdays come out on top as the favorite day to celebrate. This segment is filled with humorous and personal anecdotes about tailgating for football games, making it a fun and relatable listen.

To wrap things up, we dive into fall decorations and seasonal activities. Brittany champions early September decorating while Tony and Jordan lean towards a minimalist approach. We debate whether September is for apples and October for pumpkins, and the longevity of patio dining as the weather cools. Lastly, we highlight local attractions and the importance of supporting small businesses, suggesting charming destinations like Patterson's and Mapleside. So grab a pumpkin spiced latte and join us for

They're going to tell you their name, what their favorite fruit is and where they're from. Go ahead, brittany, and take us away.

Speaker 2:

Hey guys, thanks for having me on again. My name is Brittany. Most people know me by Brittany Jamuso. I also go by Brittany Jamuso-Croboth just to confuse everyone out there. I currently live in my parents' basement in Kirtland Hills. We've been looking for a home for over a year now out in the Kirtland area, which is east of Cleveland Lake County, and my favorite fruit this is a great time for my favorite fruit. I love apples. It's a standard good all year round, very versatile.

Speaker 1:

Okay and very healthy. Go ahead, tony.

Speaker 3:

My name is Tony Bogan. I currently stay in Havana. I am a Shaker Heights native and my favorite fruit is strawberries.

Speaker 1:

Strawberries are always a good pick, and go ahead, jordan.

Speaker 4:

My name is Jordan Heffner, I currently live in Ashvilla, and my favorite fruit, same thing as Brittanyney, I'm gonna go with apples nice.

Speaker 1:

Okay, got a lot of healthy fruit in there and a lot of northeast ohio representing the show today, which is great because northeast ohio definitely has a lot of great things for the fall. So we're gonna go on order here. Britney, tony and jordan. The first question I want to ask you guys is one word to describe fall is Brittany, take it away Cozy?

Speaker 2:

Okay, cozy. I love fall it's like cozy smells and clothes and everything.

Speaker 1:

Cozy, okay, okay, that's a good, good pick. What about you? You?

Speaker 3:

tony, to quote the late great john madden football football.

Speaker 1:

Okay, jordan what?

Speaker 4:

about you. I'm gonna have to agree with tony football, that's it okay, okay.

Speaker 1:

Well, you can definitely get cozy while you watch football on the couch or in your hoodie or whatever it may be. So it all ties together All right, definitely. The second question is going to be an interesting one here, so we definitely want to get your guys' take on this. Fall starts on September 22nd and that is definitely when fall officially starts, because summer ends. But in your opinion, when does fall begin for you, brittany?

Speaker 2:

September 1st. I hate this hot weather Fall is September 1st. When do you look at it, like when you get a kid's book or something in school? There's three months of winter, there's three months of spring. Everything's divided in three months. It starts September 1st September, octoberober, november. Those are your fall months.

Speaker 1:

Okay, all right, what about you, tony?

Speaker 3:

two dates for me. The first is the first kickoff of high school football season one and the second is the day after length, okay okay, that's fair enough.

Speaker 1:

What about you, jordan?

Speaker 4:

I'm gonna go with the first time I can wear long sleeves on a friday night and not sweat, so probably in the next two weeks okay, okay, I think for me it begins when it actually gets below like 70 degrees.

Speaker 1:

So I, I like it. I like a little bit warmer in the fall, but we're going to get to that here in a little bit, okay. So the next one is and everybody can definitely get a multiple choice here, but you only can pick one If you had to pick only one of these for yourself, to have all of fall, what are you going to pick? Pumpkin flavored beer, pumpkin flavored donuts or pumpkin flavored coffee, brittany, which one are you going to pick?

Speaker 2:

I'm going to go with donuts. Okay, donuts Pumpkin is not my most favorite, so I'm going to go donuts.

Speaker 1:

Okay, what about?

Speaker 3:

you, tony, you Tony. I also gotta go with donuts as well okay, jordan what about you?

Speaker 4:

I feel like this is not a fair question, since we talked about my law enforcement career yesterday. But I'm gonna have to go with. I'm gonna have to go with a pumpkin beer. So, uh, I don't get a stereotype that's funny, okay.

Speaker 1:

The next one is and I think it's going to be interesting, because we're all northeast ohio people, or have at least all have moved up this way. So what is your one favorite place that you like to go to for fall? And northeast ohio has a lot of great ones, but it can be anywhere. It can be anything a pumpkin patch or an apple orchard, or just a certain restaurant or whatever. It may be Brittany, what's that one place that?

Speaker 2:

is your favorite for fall? I mean, we usually go up to Eddie Fruit Farm. You see the leaves change. You pick your own apples, is it Eddie? Oh, my gosh, now I'm going to confuse myself. If it's Eddie, I believe it's Eddie. There's one you can pick your own and one you can't, and we usually end up going to both because we can't remember which one's which. So I apologize if they're listening, but we usually end up frequenting both. But you pick your own and it's just. It's awesome. They do the Concord grapes and that's one of our favorite things to to pick, along with apples, um, but it's just like it's quintessential fall is is going to a place to pick your own something okay, hey, that's that's.

Speaker 1:

That's a great example, tony. What is that one favorite place for fall for you that you like to go to?

Speaker 3:

I'm gonna sorry, I'm gonna say that there are two. There is. There's a place in Middlefield. I like going out to Amish country and getting candy apples out in Middlefield. I don't know the name of the place per se, but I know my family went there, uh, went to this place. When I was in high school we went out to Amish country, so I got to say Middlefield and a second place that my mom took me and my sister last year. I don't know the name of that place either. Please don't take my fall card Chesterland. It's out in Chesterland.

Speaker 2:

Is that Patterson's?

Speaker 3:

Yes, I believe that's, it, thank you.

Speaker 2:

Patterson's is very mainstream around here. It gets very crowded. That's why I prefer those other places. But yeah, it's another good place.

Speaker 1:

Definitely a good place. What about you, Jordan?

Speaker 4:

I'm going to White House Fruit Forums for blueberry donuts and honey crisp apples.

Speaker 1:

That's what I'm going for Look at that Shout out Canfield Ohio, right there.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. I was about to say where is that? I'm like it's not right there.

Speaker 2:

Very specific and now I feel bad.

Speaker 1:

So I would say, if I had to pick a place, I mean I really do love Patterson's, but there is a place down in the Strongsville-Brunswick area called Mapleside Farms and that's a really, really awesome place if people want to go there and hang out and just have a really cool, fun family day. There's a lot of cool things to see, but Patterson's is pretty great. I will agree with that. So the next one, Brittany, we're going to go to you on this, and I think this is an interesting topic because I don't know if a lot of people do it or not during the fall. But what do you think about people that grill during the fall? Are you one of those people that like to still grill out? Or if you guys grill out in September, october and even November?

Speaker 2:

I am not the griller. That is my one downfall, but I am not opposed to it. I think it's a great way to cook cook anything really so if you can still do it, do it. I'm not gonna want to you to run out there when it's snowing. So if it's still chilly outside and you're able to get out there and cook something, I think it's. I think it's great. I don't think grilling has a season necessarily okay, okay.

Speaker 1:

What about you, tony? Are you? Are you a person that likes to grill during the fall, and what are your thoughts?

Speaker 3:

honestly, I do not have a. I do not own a grill, but I would likely be grilling if I had one and we live in a football crazy state. Yes, I say, I say you can grill in whatever temperature you want. Honestly, I'm not If I smell it, as long as you offer me some, you know.

Speaker 1:

OK, what about you, Jordan? What are your thoughts about grilling in the fall?

Speaker 4:

Yes, absolutely, Jordan. What are your thoughts about grilling in the fall?

Speaker 1:

Yes, absolutely, we were talking about this one day at work and I was like, man, you can still definitely grill during September and October. And people are like I don't know, you have to go to like fall stuff and I'm like, yeah, but you can still grill when it's like 60 degrees outside, that's actually like perfect weather to grill.

Speaker 3:

Have these people seen it? Sailor Kate In college, in college football, San Francisco.

Speaker 4:

I mean come on Right. I'm outside in February in shorts and Crocs, growing with snow on the ground.

Speaker 2:

You, do you.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that's funny. Well, it kind of leads us right into the next question. So a lot of times fall can be warm, and especially in some areas more than another. I remember during the year of COVID that fall was exceptionally warm where I was previously living through the 70s and 80s, through October. So what are your guys' thoughts on falls that stay pretty warm through mid-October to late October? Do you like that, dislike that? What are your thoughts? Brittany Hate it.

Speaker 2:

Hate, hate. I will go so far as to say October, Do you like that? Dislike that? You know what are your thoughts. Brittany, Hate it. Hey, hey, I will go so far as to say, hey, I, I'm a cold weather girl. Um, I heard something on the radio today that we're not gonna cool down until net mid next week. So it's not supposed to hit like 75 until mid next week. And I immediately, just immediately, got angry. It's like a surefire way to piss me off is tell me that it's hot outside. So I like, I like cold September 1st. It better be cold. I purposely got married in October so that I would have a nice, you know cool day for my wedding. And I went to go pick up my wedding dress and all the girls are just shaking their heads. They're like, oh honey, we're so sorry I go. I know, I know it was terrible. It was so hot, my wedding day in October, I was so mad.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that's funny, Tony. What about you?

Speaker 3:

I like warm weather. I don't like it being in the 80s in October. I remember one time I was a sophomore we were playing Mentor. It was in the upper 80s, like almost 90s, Like that's not normal. Anything in the 80s in October is not normal. 60s and 70s and even 50s I can live with, but 80s that's kind of troubling.

Speaker 1:

Okay, what about?

Speaker 4:

you, jordan, I'm going to go with colder. I like it colder because that's when you really see the best football, because heat is not a factor at that point.

Speaker 1:

That's an interesting way to interesting way to to look at it. You know I'm a fan of the warmer falls. I actually really I do like that because in my opinion, the warmer it is, the later it is. That means the less it's going to be cold for a longer duration for like the Christmas holidays and stuff, so the less snow we're going to. So I am a fan of it being as warm as it can be for as long as it can be. But it's funny you said at Tony about the temperature with football. When I was still coaching college football many years ago, we were playing in Pennsylvania for a game and it actually was uh, the second week of October and it was a whopping 87 degrees at kickoff. So it was uh, it was quite, quite, quite interesting to be playing at 87 degrees in mid-October for a game that sounds awful sounds yeah it, it was pretty awful.

Speaker 1:

It actually was definitely pretty awful. So next one we want to go to Brittany. We're going to go back to you. What's the?

Speaker 2:

better day to do a fall activity on a Saturday or a Sunday? Ooh, god made a day a rest.

Speaker 1:

So I'm going to go Saturday, okay, what?

Speaker 3:

about you, tony. I second this motion. I say Saturday as well okay, what about you, jordan?

Speaker 4:

uh, depends on what time the buckeyes play.

Speaker 1:

On saturday, but probably saturday okay okay, you know, I think I think both of them have their, you know, have their perks. Um, you know you, I think you can do maybe a little bit more family stuff. Potentially on a saturday, you know, or sunday you can kind of relax and do what you want around the house. But you know, you may flip-flop those days and find that Saturday you might just want to watch college football, on Sunday you might want to do the family thing. So I think both days are great. I just think it depends on what weather you're looking for on which day, excuse me. So the next one, we kind of hit it on this with the whole football thing. Brittany, we're going to go to you, though. Have you ever tailgated, or do you currently tailgate, for football games on Saturdays or Sundays?

Speaker 2:

I will tailgate. I am a fan of tailgate. I'm going to get crucified here, but I'm not a huge football. I'm a fair weather football fan. I got to be honest. I watch the Browns when they're doing well, I do tailgate. I've been known to tailgate a little too hard so I've been banned from tailgating. I'm actually going to go to my first like real tailgate. Can I do a shout out for the city of Wycliffe and Club Molasani are hosting a uh like open to the public tailgate at Club Molasani on the 29th. They're gonna have it outdoors. All this fun stuff. I'm actually really excited for it. It's gonna be my first tailgate in quite a number of years. Um, real, like a real tailgate. Um, yeah, I'm, I'm for it.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 3:

What about you, tony? I like the environment of tailgates. I've been to a couple of big tailgating events. The Kent State football homecoming in 2021 and 22 would have gone last year if I didn't catch COVID in mid-October and there are people who tailgate. There are a lot of local area schools that will tailgate for high school football games as well. There's nothing like a good tailgate. I will say that.

Speaker 4:

Okay, what about you, jordan? I've actually never been a part of it, ever. What?

Speaker 3:

for anything at all.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, get you to one man not even a crazy one, just like a hangout before a game well, I mean I've been around, like when they did college game day a couple years ago in Columbus. Okay, that counts, that was. I was only here about an hour.

Speaker 3:

Would you go to one if they did at Youngstown State? Would I what? I'm sorry, if game day was at Youngstown State.

Speaker 4:

It depends on my football schedule, but probably.

Speaker 1:

You know, I think for this I think again it depends on the weather, cause I mean, I'm not going to go tailgate if it's raining or it's like 35 degrees, but I think if you can get like a nice 60, 70 degree day, especially at a college football game, and it's not kicking off till three o'clock and you can tailgate and hang out and grill and all that stuff, I think that's a that's a fun time. It's a great way to spend the fall Saturday so which leads us kind of into the next one, going from tailgating to go on the hangout though somewhere else. What are your thoughts on? Would you be interested in? You know, what do you think of people that go to like the new England States so you know, vermont or Connecticut or New Hampshire or whatever for like September or October vacations? Is that something that you would be interested in? Brittany?

Speaker 2:

Absolutely that's. It's on my list of. I mean, we're lucky in the Northeast we get to see our leaves change. But I just kind of want to see it like New England style, like I want to go up there and see it and I think it would just be just absolutely beautiful. But Ohio is pretty flat so we don't get to see all like the nice variations and stuff. But I'm for it.

Speaker 1:

Okay, what about you, tony? Would you take a vacation to the New England States in September or October?

Speaker 3:

Honestly, if I wasn't so much of a fanatic with football, I'd say yes, but I'm going to say no. But I do like good foil, and if someone was to tell me, tony, you're going with us, it'll be fun, I'd probably end up saying yes, but me going by myself.

Speaker 1:

Tony, think about this though you could go like tailgate at the University of Connecticut football game. It could be the fall.

Speaker 3:

You get some football in then then, so you're getting your football I'm pretty sure I mean I'd be, then I'd be open I'd be open if that was, if that was in, if that was in the equation, then yes you gotta hit the.

Speaker 2:

There's good breweries up there, you gotta hit you gotta hit the breweries in the with the foliage and the football, it's great. Now I'm planning my next vacation.

Speaker 1:

Go ahead, jordan. I'm sorry, ride home rants Brittany just planned her next vacation so what about you, Jordan?

Speaker 4:

You ever see that episode of Family Guy when everybody from New York goes up to New England to watch the leaves change?

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 4:

I I ain't going up there too many people, I'm good you know that's, that's valid.

Speaker 1:

Um, a couple months ago we went on a trip to what's called jim thorpe pa, the old town of machunk. It's in in the Pocono Mountains. Anyways, make a long story short, they actually get this surge of people from August to October for their fall foliage and they just say that the town just busts at the seams because so many people come there to see it, because it's in the mountains, you're seeing all the leaves change, you're right on the water and it's such a huge influx of money for the town but yet it's such a strain on the infrastructure Cause, like you said, so many people go. Like that episode of family guy, it just actually made me, made me think of that. So, brittany, we're going to go back to you on this one, okay, and we're going to see what you guys think, cause this is going to be a pretty interesting one. So here we go. So is carving pumpkins overrated or underrated?

Speaker 3:

overrated overrated.

Speaker 1:

Okay, what about you, tony I?

Speaker 3:

agree with britney it's overrated and I'm not just saying that because I don't know, jordan, you're hitting a trifecta here.

Speaker 1:

What are you saying?

Speaker 4:

yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with all them. It's overrated. You carve them, you put them out in front of your house, they rot, it looks horrible and then that's it yeah, I, I would agree with that.

Speaker 1:

I think maybe just put up some you know pumpkins in general outside, look, uh, look nice, and you know, maybe put a corn stalk up and a you know fall decor on your door, your house. But yeah, carving pumpkins I definitely think is is overrated and it's messy and it stinks and like people see them and they want to smash them. So I mean it's a lot of work for a very short time.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, to fight with the animals. Yeah, you fight with the animals. They're all trying to steal it off your porch.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, actually that's valid. Yeah, you get deer up there eating it, or you get, you know, some other small critter in there you know stealing your pumpkin and running down the street with it in their mouth and yeah, it's definitely not fun. But that leads us to the next question. And then, brittany, we're going to go back to you when not fun, but that leads us to the next question. Then, brittany, we're going to go back to you, um, when?

Speaker 2:

do you start decorating for fall? If you decorate, I would start September 1st. I'm uh, I would put all the all the fall stuff goes out, including the like jack-o'-lanterns, maybe like mid-fall I mean mid-September for that all like the Halloween stuff goes out and then the Halloween stuff goes away. Hear me out. Halloween stuff goes away and all the fall stuff stays up through November because why not? It's got to stay up, it's pretty okay, tony, what about you?

Speaker 3:

I don't decorate, but if I did, probably it would be late September and I'd probably keep my stuff up until probably until Halloween and then first of November that stuff's coming down okay, what about you, jordan?

Speaker 4:

I'm just like Tony, I don't second week october and I take it down right around thanksgiving okay, okay.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I know a lot of people are kind of all over the place with that, like they'll put the fall stuff out and then they'll like transition to halloween, then transmit, transition back to fall, where they'll just keep the stuff out, you know, from september to basically it rots away in november. But it's always interesting to hear people's perspectives on that. So the next one we definitely want to get your guys' opinion on, and this is just a simple yes or no. I'm going to read you a question here and then just a simple yes or no. So, brittany, we're going to go to you. So do you think this is, in your opinion, yes or no? September is for apples and October is for pumpkins.

Speaker 3:

No, Okay, tony or no.

Speaker 1:

September is for apples and october is for pumpkins. No, okay, tony, what's the question? One more time is september for apples and october for pumpkins? No, no, okay. What about you, jordan? Yes, yes, okay, now we're gonna go back to it and find out why you guys said that. So, brittany, why do you, uh, why do you not agree with?

Speaker 2:

that because you say pumpkins, I think pumpkin spice. I'm not a pumpkin spice person, so I'm just gonna say apples all around, um. But if you're talking like decoration wise, yeah, sure, the pumpkins come out in October all right, what?

Speaker 1:

what about you, tony? Why did you say no?

Speaker 3:

because September and October for football goes back to football.

Speaker 1:

And then why did you say?

Speaker 4:

yes Because they both said no. No, I said yes, especially for the apples, because that's when you can get the biggest honey-crisp apples from White House in September.

Speaker 1:

Okay, definitely interesting. On that, I think it's actually a yes, because I feel like apples are like that, still that summer, um, yet early, early fall vibe, and then you go to pumpkins in october, then you can transition like halloween with them and in the november for thanksgiving. So that's just kind of what I was thinking with that we were coming up with the topics I'm like this will be interesting to get um get their opinions on. So. And then the last one we want to wrap up with you guys um is something I think is unique Cause, again, I think it depends on where you're at and what the weather is. But how long do you think restaurants should keep their patios open for through the fall? Like when do you think they should keep them open? Should it be September? Should it be October? Did they just close when the weather gets bad? What are your guys' thoughts? Brittany?

Speaker 2:

I mean, are we?

Speaker 1:

getting really involved in this answer Because I have feelings. You can express your feelings on the Ride Home Rants podcast. It is called Ride Home Rants.

Speaker 2:

So I mean I love a good patio. I mean we're in Ohio, right, so we don't get a whole lot of patios sit in time. So you put, you keep it out as long as people are wanting to sit outside, and then you throw up some of those big heaters. Make it nice, make it. You know, if you have to kind of enclose a little bit of it or something to keep wind out, go for that. And then you get those igloos in the winter to keep wind out, go for that. And then you get those igloos in the winter. You get yourself a nice igloo and I'm all for one of those to be outside all season. I'm there.

Speaker 1:

Okay, that was very in-depth and that was. That was a lot of feelings behind that. I felt the intensity over this Zoom call.

Speaker 2:

So think about it. Covid brought out those igloos. Right, that was the best thing ever. Like, people flock to those, and I've learned that I love to eat outside in the winter when I'm in an igloo.

Speaker 1:

Okay, tony, do you have strong feelings, like britney does, about this?

Speaker 3:

I will say that they, the patios, should stay till October or even November. Just as long as the weather is warm and people want to eat outside, I say so be it. But the second the weather gets crummy and it continues to stay crummy. Sorry, patios close till March. But they'll say but it's 70 outside. No, the patio is closed. In late November the patio was open. You had plenty of months to be on the patio. And just because there's one 70-degree day in December does not mean we're opening it up.

Speaker 1:

All right, jordan, how do you feel about the patios in the fall?

Speaker 4:

I think Brittany said it all. I feel the same way she poured her heart into that answer. I feel the same way she poured her heart into that answer. I feel the same way. Hold your head feeling.

Speaker 1:

Well, you know what, and I I think like, again, it depends where you're at. But yeah, I mean, why not have patios open in september? I mean, look how warm it's been now and it and by october you still have 60 or 70 degree days and people want to sit out there, especially if you're watching college football Saturdays, or you know Major League Baseball, you know even football on Sundays with, like, the Browns or whoever may be playing. If you got a good day for a patio, why not keep going? I think most people love a love, a good patio. So, as we're finishing up the episode here, I want to leave this with you guys and we'll give you about 30 seconds or a minute each. But what are your plans for this fall? As the calendar turns to fall, brittany, do you have any fun things lined up for yourself and your family.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm a procrastinator so I haven't thought that far ahead, even though I'm a huge advocate for fall, all the fall things. I have two little kids, six and four and a half, so I want them to do all the fall things. We're in soccer now. We are my. My oldest is wanting to go to the football games cause she she's hearing and seeing these cheerleaders around school. So we're gonna, we're going to take her to some of the high school football games or even maybe like the, the elementary school football games and stuff and uh and get her involved in, in seeing what that's about.

Speaker 2:

But we want to do all the, all the apple picking, all the pumpkin picking that you got to take a picture by a you know a bunch of pumpkins or else it's not fall. You have to wear your flannel plaid. We got to do all the fall things. I think every year I have a video of my kids like in a pile of leaves or throwing up a pile of leaves and the slow-mo of it coming down. I mean it's my favorite. So anything fall related and I'm there for making those memories.

Speaker 1:

Awesome, awesome. What about you, tony? You got any big fall plans ahead this year?

Speaker 3:

Covering football, watching football, possibly ranting about football, being sad at work because football isn't on. Then watching football after work, hanging with family while thinking about football, and then probably just football and family.

Speaker 1:

Okay, jordan, what about you? Any big fall plans this year?

Speaker 4:

Tony said it Football, football, football. That's about it for me.

Speaker 1:

Okay, well, we definitely, I feel like.

Speaker 1:

I'm in a minority here. We definitely love some football here. You know football here. We all had it incorporated in to those answers. But as the calendar turns and we we go into fall here, we definitely hope all of our listeners and everyone out there, uh, take some of the things that we recommended. Um, you know, whether it's going to to Patterson's or, you know, mapleside, um, or Whitehouse fruit farms or wherever it may be, definitely go enjoy the fall atmosphere out there. A lot of these places are small businesses, um, and we love small businesses here at the Ride Home Rants podcast. Definitely support them, you know. Get out, see a new place, take a road trip, maybe to go to New England, uh, who knows? Or maybe Jim Thorpe PA shout out to Jim Thorpe PA. Wherever you go, definitely enjoy it and be safe, as always. If you enjoyed the show, be a friend and tell a friend, and if you didn't enjoy it, tell them anyways, because I bet they like it just because you didn't. This is Fitty signing off and we'll see you next week.
